Long ago, before the world as we know it began, Heaven was filled with light a
nd powerful beings called Archangels. Among them were Gabriel, the messenger; Raphael, the helper; and Michael, the protector.
But there was also Lucifer. He was so radiant that he was nicknamed "Son of the Morning." However, Lucifer had a problem: he became obsessed with his own reflection. He decided he was too beautiful and too powerful to follow anyone else's rules—even God’s.
Lucifer’s pride turned into a plan. He convinced a group of angels to join him, claiming they were just as important as God. He marched his army to the throne and declared, "I would rather rule my own kingdom than serve in Yours."
God gave Lucifer a chance to change his mind, but Lucifer refused. To restore peace, God called upon Michael to lead the faithful angels. A massive battle broke out across the heavens—the first war ever fought.
In the end, Michael and his army won. Lucifer and his followers were cast out of Heaven forever.
Today, Lucifer is known by a different name: Satan. Because he can never return to Heaven, he spends his time trying to keep "ordinary people" from getting there. He uses jealousy and bad ideas to trip us up, hoping to recruit more people to his side.
St. Michael: We call on him for courage because he’s the ultimate defender.
The Choice: Every time you choose kindness over being "horrid," you’re winning a small piece of that ancient battle.
September 29th: This is the Feast of the Archangels, a day to celebrate the heroes who stood their ground.
